A sneak peek at what to expect in the 11th Desert Storm.
Xtreme Route:
This year Desert Storm is being confined to Rajasthan state only. A decision borne out the input received from all most all competitors seeking cutting down the large transport distances to reach Rann of Kutch. Despite this being the case the recce teams have done their job well and total competitive distance for Desert Storm 2013 is more than the competitive distance run in 2012.
Ceremonial flag off from New Delhi will take place in the morning of February 18th.
Leg 1 will start past midnight of the night between February 18th and 19th at Sardarshahar. This area was undoing of many stalwarts in 2012. The First Stage, starts at midnight. The leg will end at Bikaner late in to afternoon of February 19th. The leg also contains a short section across loads and loads of sand with some very interesting climbs and drops.
Leg 2 will flag off early morning on February 20th and after some very interesting country side romp will wind up in the evening at Jaisalmer.
Leg 3 will be a Jaisalmer to Jaisalmer leg. The rally will loop around the town and cover competitive over some of the amazing landscape Thar Desert has to offer around this town.
Leg 4 will run back to Bikaner after starting in the morning from Jaisalmer. Some innovative point to point navigation will test the competitors.
Leg 5 will have a real early start and add to the competition by running one section of the two in pre-dawn darkness. After the competition the rally will move to Jaipur for a well deserved rest and prize distribution.
Xplore Route:
After a ceremonial start from New Delhi the rally will move to Sardarshahar from where the actual competition will start post dinner.
Leg 1 Will be a combination night and day run like last year. The competitors had a hell of confusing time trying to navigate through back roads of Churu and Bikaner districts. We liked it so we give you more of the same.
Leg 2 Will see early morning competition that will route you to the side of Indira Gandhi Canal. Unlike last year we will not use the National Highway 15 to reach Bikaner but for a short duration.
Leg 3 Run near and around the town of Jaisalmer. The rally will then take you to historic places like Longewala and Tanot. We will give you time to enjoy these places and click pictures for posterity.
Leg 4 A twist in tale and some off the tarmac experience that you and your navigator will remember. The rally wil bring you back to Bikaner.
Leg 5 Will be run much before the sun rises up on the horizon and will give you chance to see the sliver of the new moon setting on the western horizon. This will be the longest leg of the competition and will take you to Jaipur for the announcment of winners and handing over the trophies at a glittering ceremony.
