Storm’13 for Ndure

Ndure introduces TSD participants to Xtreme tracks.

The first night is one tough drive as susual for this category too. Night spent navigating and traversing country side full of sand dunes and village tracks. Precise driving is a must as well as coordination with the navigator. It is so easy to loose the route at night. There are so many small tracks made by camel carts and such that you can mistake them from the track that you are supposed to follow. Have a good odometer to guide you. The day does not end with dawn but goes on using back country roads to lunch halt at Sheruna. A small high speed section is on cards before the night halt at Bikaner. This is indeed endurance being tested.

A very very long drive for day two. From Bikaner to Jaisalmer using tracks and back country roads and off road excursions in to dune country. Some cautious driving needed along the canal banks. You should reach Jaisalmer in reasonable time – if you do not get stuck in Sand drifts and dunes. Drivers be good.

Day three is comparatively easy and we give you some time out in the after noon to enjoy Jaisalmer and do some picture taking either at Sam sand dunes or inside Fort at Jaisalmer. Your choice. Though be warned that you may also witness some fire power display by Indian Air Force, who are doing test exercise during those days at nearby Chandan firing range. We start and end at Jaisalmer.

More tedium will follow on next day as we travel back from Jaisalmer to Bikaner. A small run along the railway line is followed by major traverse through dunes and scrub land. Watch how solar power is being harnessed aplenty in Rajasthan. Count how many power plants are on your way but do not get so busy counting that you loose your way or get stuck in sandy outback.

Last day is supposed to be easy as organisers want all of you back in Jaipur nice and early for prize distribution party at night. Right. So we will get you early enough in Jaipur from Bikaner. We only start a wee bit earlier – say at three in the morning! We know some of you consider that as night and not morning. This is testing endurance to limit. Just two small sandy sections interconnected with back country roads. Do we hope that few more people get lost and not reach the end?

Ndure do not get all the tracks but only some portions. Rest they have to manage using road book while regulating speed based on speed charts & calculations. Though the Ndure shares many tracks with Xtreme at places they have their own deviations so blindly following “borrowed” GPS tracks form Xtreme are invitation to trouble. Watch out.
